Description

534 Sherburn St.

Geoffrey L. Dixon (1921-2006) was born in Wauchope, SK. He received his education in Arcola, SK and worked in the weekly newspaper office. Geoff came to Winnipeg in 1941 and worked for Hignell Printing as a press operator. It was at this time he met Clarence Tillenius who was commissioned by Monarch Life to paint wildlife scenes for their corporate calendar. Geoff produced the coloured press proofs for the first calendar.

In 1979 Geoff attended art classes at Tec-Voc under the tutelage of Roy Fijal and Joyce Anderson. Oil paints, canvas and Geoff became very compatible. He joined the St. James Art Club in 1981, serving as President of the club for more than 13 years. Always involved in his community he was a longtime volunteer at Isaac Brock Community Club and served on the City of Winnipeg Council from 1972-1977.

Most of his works feature scenes of Winnipeg, Gimli, rural areas of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, both summer and winter scenes. He won many Best of Show competitions.

In Winnipeg, Geoffs paintings have been shown at Polo Park, Grant Park Center, the Manitoba Archives, St. James Civic Centre, Assiniboine Park Conservatory and the Fleet Gallery. His paintings hang in Australia, Germany, Quebec, Toronto, British Columbia, Alberta, California and in many corporate offices in Winnipeg.
