Artist: Denis Minevich

My name is Denis Minevich, a Natick and Boston, MA based artist! I love to explore many mediums of art, though typically my main artforms are photography (couples/events and sports in particular) and graphic design. However, with that said, I've always loved to draw and paint for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I've gotten to work on a number of public art installations in the past, which is where I've been able to showcase this side of my art creativity. I would say my style is often very bright, colorful, contrastful, bold, and playful. I really enjoy making art that spreads joy to all who look at it and hope that this is what my whale does! Thank you! 

 For this whale, I used a combination of photographs I personally took on the Cape, mixed in with memories I’ve experienced on the Cape. Between a classic golden sunset scene on Mayflower Beach, a jetty walk to one of the famous landmark lighthouses, and things like sailboats, jeeps on the beach, and sandcastles, I really wanted to ensure that this scene had a little bit of everything. The real easter egg in all of this though, would be the ‘hidden’ rubber ducks that I put throughout the scene. This adds a bit of playfulness to my design, as well as what I believe to me, is a staple of specifically Chatham, plus they’re my favorite animal. On the flip side of the whale, I decided to go with an even more fun and playful route, with the seagulls staring at what would be the “fourth wall” of the painting. They run the beaches rampant and I thought this is a perfect way to combine the two sides.
