Description

Artist: Janet Biondi

Janet Biondi is a New England artist who is inspired by ocean, sky, land and wildlife. She is a graduate of College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where she earned a B.A. in Human Ecology and studied comparative anatomy and wildlife anatomical illustration. As a student, she participated in necropsies of 30’ minke whales where she attained a first hand perspective of whale anatomy.

Upon graduating in 1981, she melded her two interests, art and science. For the following 10 years her art focused strictly on marine mammals. She has participated in several marine mammal research projects at sea in Cape Cod, California, Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands.  These experiences, including swimming with whales and dolphins in Hawaii and Tonga have given her the inspiration and first hand knowledge of marine mammals and water, which she then translates into life-like imagery on canvas.

Her work has been published in journals, books and as prints and purchased for private collections around the world. Most recently, Janet was given the honor of designing the Striped Bass Conservation license plate for the state of Massachusetts Environmental Trust. Funds from the sale of the plate benefit conservation efforts for the Striped Bass.

Her current body of oil paintings focus on Cape Cod land & seascapes and marine imagery.

Janet makes her home in Eastham, Massachusetts. The public is invited to view her work at her home studio by appointment. Commissions are welcomed.
