Description
Artist: Hannah Hilliard
Hannah Hilliard is a Cape Cod-based artist whose work is deeply inspired by the natural world, the simplicity of childhood, and the enduring influence of the sea. A native of Martha’s Vineyard now residing in Eastham, she translates her coastal upbringing into imaginative, thoughtful compositions.
Hilliard was raised in an artistic environment through her mother’s GE Hilliard Galleries in Chilmark and Edgartown. Immersed in the creative process from a young age, she developed an early understanding of and appreciation for the arts. Rather than traditional play, her formative years were spent in studios, observing artists at work and absorbing the rhythms of creative life.
She has continued to engage with artistic communities throughout her career, working in galleries and museums, and studying under respected educators such as sculptor Heather Blume. Her artistic influences include Ralph and Martha Cahoon and Edward Gorey, whose storytelling and sense of place resonate strongly in her own work.
Hilliard works in a range of media, including pen and ink, colored pencil, watercolor, and block printing. Her Trees of Life series exemplifies her connection to Cape Cod’s history and landscape, offering both a visual narrative and a personal expression of gratitude.
She is currently working at The Frying Pan Gallery, her cards and prints available at both the Wellfleet and Orleans locations.
