Description
Artist: Lyn Coffey
The inspiration for this year’s oar began with a quiet stroll along Lighthouse Beach, from the Dune Shack and back. Along the way, I was immersed in the rhythm of the sea and sky, where sailboats drifted across the horizon, commercial fishing boats moved with purpose, and day cruisers came and went. This ongoing dance between land and water, solitude and activity became what reflects both the stillness and movement found at the edge of the shore.
Lyn Coffey grew up in an artistic household and has been painting since early childhood. She received her BFA at Parsons School of Design in NYC. Working professionally as a graphic designer has greatly influenced her fine art. Painting intuitively en plein air has become an important part of her process. When observing daily life or creating a narrative, capturing a true sense of place is inherent. Thoughtful loose mark-making along with the effect of light depicts the atmosphere of the day and gesture of the figure. As an award-winning artist, she has been working with a focus on coastal landscapes since moving to Cape Cod in 2020. Lyn shows regularly at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, The Colors of Chatham gallery at 402 Main Street, and maintains a working studio in Cotuit.
