About the Artist
Shannon Hiramoto learned to sew at age 14 from her grandmother, Mildred Hiramoto, who inspired her lifelong love of making. Carrying on this creative lineage, Shannon started Machinemachine in 2007, a project that has grown into a beloved brand known for inventive textile art and her deep affection for the Hawaiian muʻumuʻu. In 2015, she began the celebrated #muumuumonth tradition and continues documenting the cultural legacy of the muʻumuʻu through TheMuumuuArchive.com.
This piece is both a visual celebration of Hawaiʻi’s natural beauty and a heartfelt connection to place, family, and tradition.
