Made entirely of rough cedar, this nest box is optimally designed not only for nesting, but with the top being hinged, one is able to monitor the box without disturbing the nest. The side is also hinged to allow for efficient removal of old or unwanted nests.

The sides and bottom of the box are vented to prevent over-heating. Exterior dimensions of the box space are approximately 7”x7”x11.5” at the back. The back board is long enough (~17”) to allow for mounting hardware for wood or metal posts (not provided).

The top overhangs in the front by about 3” to provide shade and protection of the entry. The interior of the front has notching to facilitate fledglings exiting the nest when the time comes. Hinges are made of brass and may color over time from exposure, which should not affect the strength of the metal.
