Description
Locking lidded box. Sugar maple with oil paint and tung oil. Locking lidded boxes are a classic Scandinavian form, produced by the tens of thousands in pre-industrial southwestern Sweden. Used to store everything from receipts to dry goods to butter, some folks describe them as "Viking Tupperware." They are a challenge to make, demanding precise turning, quarter-sawn green wood, and careful control of the drying process to avoid cracking and achieve the locking mechanism.
