Located in Northern Portugal, the city of Porto is Portugal's second largest city behind the capital of Lisbon and is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Rich in culture and history, this beautiful charismatic city has laid back charm, quaint colorful buildings and cobblestone streets, and a reputation as being the home of Port wine, incredible street art, and some of the best, most-mouthwatering cuisine in all of Europe! This trip is a feast for all your senses, with a walking tour, a river cruise, wine, authentic cuisine and a heartfelt performance!
Set sail along the Douro River on a traditional Rabelo Boat, a traditional Portuguese wooden cargo boat that was used for centuries to carry Port wine barrels, people and goods down the river. You'll cruise along the river banks of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia as you discover the beauty of the city from a different perspective and take in the views of Porto's famous six bridges! This shared group boat tour is approximately one hour in duration.
Go back in time to the 17th century beginnings of port wine production on your Vila Nova de Gaia walking tour and wine tasting, to a period when wine was transformed with the addition of brandy, creating the renowned after-dinner drink we cherish today. Today, Gaia, as it's known, boasts a vibrant cultural life with traditional festivals, lively markets, and a growing number of museums and attractions, including the "World of Wine" (WOW) cultural district. A knowledgeable guide will take your shared group through the part of the city along the river that is famous for its port wine cellars, and you will get to visit three different cellars, and of course enjoy wine tastings along the way.
Enjoy a deeply cultural and intimate experience one evening, when live Fado music performance is combined with a mouthwatering Portuguese dinner! Born on the city streets, Fado is traditional Portuguese music accompanied by singing, renowned for its expressive and profoundly melancholic character. This music is a symbol of national identity, and it communicates to everyone the feelings of pain, jealousy, solitude and love. This will be an unforgettable experience!
Throughout your trip, you'll stay in an elegant one-bedroom and one-bathroom apartment located in the heart of Porto, which offers a unique blend of simple modern design with cozy sophistication - think clean lines mixed with bold accents. Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and convenience, and the prime location will keep you within easy reach of the various sites that Porto has to offer, including Ribeira, Baixa (Downtown) and the Jardins do Palacio de Cristal, amongst others!
