Founded in 2005 by visionary Artistic Director Samuel Pott (former soloist with Martha Graham Dance Company) and based in Jersey City, Nimbus stands at the forefront of excellence in the arts, civic engagement, and equitable impact.

Nimbus is Jersey City’s largest arts non-profit, with interwoven wings of professional dance company, dance school, arts center, and community engagement programs.

Nimbus Dance
Nimbus’ international company of dancers has a highly physical and visually engaging aesthetic that “split the difference between traditionalism and modernism… A Nimbus piece can pivot from ballet to Broadway to Beyoncé in a few beats.” (Tris McCall, Jersey City Times). The company performs on tour nationally and throughout the greater New Jersey/New York region, impacting more than 16,000 people annually. Recently, Nimbus performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood and is humbled by support from the National Endowment for the Arts and O’Donnell Green Music and Dance Foundation.

The School of Nimbus & Educational Engagement
With an extensive track record of bringing high-caliber artists into immersive educational programs, Nimbus Teaching Artists play an essential role in furthering Nimbus’ community-focused mission by cultivating a multi-faceted understanding of the world for students, inspiring freedom of expression through dance and fostering a sense of community, empathy, and self-confidence.

The School of Nimbus offers professional dance instruction in ballet, modern, hip hop, tap, and many other dance techniques for children, teens, and pre-professional students ages 2-18. It emphasizes small classes and high-quality dance education taught by Nimbus Dance company dancers and leading professionals in the industry in a non-competitive environment.

Nimbus Arts Center
In September 2020, Nimbus relocated to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art center, the Nimbus Arts Center at the Lively in the Powerhouse Arts District of Jersey City. The Nimbus Arts Center is home to Nimbus Dance, the School of Nimbus, and the Firmament Art Gallery, as well as Resident Partner organizations Segunda Quimbamba, A Sound Start, Shehnaaz Dance Academy, and Bridge Art Gallery.

With 14,900 square feet offering a Black Box Theater, Gallery, and Studios, the Nimbus Arts Center is the largest dance-based arts center in the State of New Jersey.

Aligning with Nimbus’ mission to wield the arts as a medium for broad impact to our diverse community, the Nimbus Arts Center provides a home base for Nimbus’ Artistic Work and Programs as it expands its national profile and impact.
