Description

Rainbow Fish |  This rainbow bass represents a celebration of humans and love in all its forms (and colors). Inspired by Massachusetts Regional Tourism Councils' new emblem reflecting "the heart of our Commonwealth: welcoming everyone, from everywhere." While the title "Rainbow Fish" is a nod to the Marcus Pfister children's book sharing the same name.

With this new logo highlighting representation, I wanted to show off the Progress Pride flag (designed in 2018 by the non-binary American artist Daniel Quasar), as a drove of flying dragons. Each soaring dragon represents a color on the flag with the two featured dragon faces representing the trans community and communities of color during this time when representation needs to be seen more than ever.

This is my third year participating in Edgartown's Bass in the Grass, and each previous year I snuck in some scaley mysterious creature(s). This year I wanted to lean in even more and create a piece that not only meant something that was important to me...but was really fun to make!

Each dragon has its own personality and physical characteristics, just like each of us. I made the 3D dragons using a pool noodle base, covered in paper mâché, with cut paper details layered over top. Painted with acrylics with cuttings done by hand, there is a piece of me in every layer. <3

Artist:  Taylor Stone

Taylor is a local cut paper artist known for her magical, detail-driven artwork (all painted and cut by hand). You may recognize her running around organizing a First Friday VH, or her art from the Vineyard Artisans, Chilmark Flea Market, or a whole bunch of places around the island over the last 10 years! This marks her third year joining Bass in the Grass, and she couldn't be happier to represent the MV Chamber of Commerce this year.
