Description

This rare 49” x 49” weaving depicts “Coyote Stealing Fire.” This quite difficult rug to weave traces the metaphysical Coyote stealing the first fire amber from Fire God, then witnesses Coyote on his perilous journey through the Milky Way, around the Full Moon and the New Moon, eluding Big Thunder (which represents the tectonic forces of nature), over the Sacred Navajo Place of Emergence from the Underworld, and eventually giving it the first Navajo Man and first Navajo Woman in their hogan to them warm through the winters to help them cook their food forever. Circa 1995. The description and appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.

This is a Live Event Item.
