This 9” x 11” Hopi polychrome coiled basket from Third Mesa depicts two images of Crow Mother Kachina (who is the mother of all Kachinas) and Hey Hey Ya Kachina (messenger to the Rain God). This basket is magnificently woven with very tight stitching from Yucca leaves in its white and green natural colors and dyed colors from their native plants obtained from sunflower seeds (black), clay deposits (brown), and white Yucca leaves left to ferment in the snow (yellow). Circa 1995. The description and appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.
