Description
This classic 11 ¾” height x 9 ¾” diameter four color polychrome deep basket depicts two Tohono O’odham women harvesting the red fruits of the saguaro cactus with their long kuipuds (poles) made from saguaro ribs. There are also two desert mule tailed deer shown between the saguaro cacti. The basket depicts the annual Baidaj (saguaro fruit harvest) ceremonial custom of picking saguaro fruit and fermenting it into wine. Circa 1960.
