In his calligraphy series, Michael Sosin fuses Venetian glassblowing techniques and his fascination with the Eastern aesthetic. He meticulously arranges calligraphic glass-powder designs on a preheated steel plate and picks them up on a gather of hot glass, often incorporating gold and silver leaf before blowing the final shape. The last step is to apply a ribbon of contrasting colored hot glass to the lip of the piece.
