Special Instructions

Denis Savard was the Chicago Blackhawks' first round pick in the 1980 entry draft; his skill and leadership made him an immediate fan favorite. Savard let the team in scoring for seven consecutive seasons (1981-82 to 1987-88). He still holds the Blackhawk record for most points in a season (131 in 1987-88). Traded to Montreal in June 1990, he became a part of the Canadiens' Stanley Cup winning team in 1992-93. He signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay in the summer of 1993, and it was from Tampa that the Hawks reacquired the swift-skating playmaker in 1995. In July 1997, Savard announced his retirement from active play. In honor of his contributions to hockey and to the Blackhawks, Denis Savard's jersey number was retired on March 19, 1998. In June of 2000, his first year of eligibility, Savard was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is now an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks.
