Description
This handmade paper cast of a juvenile humpback whale's vertebra measures 26" high x 35" long x by 15" wide.

Visual and performance artist Diana Marto cast this piece in Big Sur on a picnic table, as she watched whales spouting in the distance. She feels that the presence of the bones amongst us have a message for us, for they washed ashore at the time of the World Trade Center tragedy. Can we fathom it?
This piece is from her series titled "Essence of the Whales." She will perform with them, along with high school students, at Dunphy Park in Sausalito June 4, 2005, at 6 p.m.
Marto's work has been exhibited and presented globally in such diverse locales as Turkey, Hong Kong, Japan and Capetown, and in the U.S. in New Mexico, the Bay Area and Big Sur.
