SHORT BIO:
Gabriel Boyers, violinist, has performed internationally as recitalist, chamber and orchestral musician. He has performed at the "Sandor Vegh International Chamber Music Academy" in Prague, the "Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival" in CO, the Banff Centre in Canada, the "Musicorda Festival" in MA, and in the "Young Artist/Music at Noon Series" at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, among many other places. He has won competitions in NY and NH, served as concertmaster of several orchestras at the New England Conservatory and elsewhere, and performs regularly with both NEC's "Contemporary Ensemble" and it's new-music group "The Calithumpian Consort." As a member of the Rembrandt String Quartet, he has been called an "elegant, accomplished player" by Lloyd Schwartz of the Boston Phoenix. Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe called the quartet's performance of Ralph Shapey's Quartet No. 6 "an exceptional feat of concentration and sympathy." While performing regularly, Gabriel is also a dedicated violin teacher, maintaining an active private teaching studio while being on the music faculty of several New England schools, including St. George's Academy in RI. A musician with a wide variety of interests, Gabriel is a regular volunteer for a variety of social/political advocacy groups, a student and practicer of the Alexander Technique, and a poet whose work appears in The Paris Review and Midstream among other places.
