Since he became the director of the Cleveland Empowerment Zone in October of 2003, Anthony Houston has kept a low media profile, focusing instead on serving the 50,000 residents in the EZ. The Empowerment Zone is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development program designed to help reinvest in the urban communities of Fairfax, Glenville, Hough, and midtown Cleveland for which the City of Cleveland received $177 million dollars of loan and grant funds over a ten year period. After living and working in New York, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia for fifteen years, he recently returned to Cleveland.
