Description

(Rev. Edward Glynn is donating one hour of his time to the winning bidder)

Father Edward Glynn, SJ, was born in 1935 in Clarks Summit, a small town in eastern Pennsylvania. He credits his introduction to the Jesuits to a parishioner whose kindness enabled him to attend nearby Scranton Preparatory School. He went on to attend the University of Scranton and would earn additional degrees at Fordham University, Woodstock College, Yale Divinity School, and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate in 1955 and was ordained in 1967.

A wide-ranging career in teaching, writing and administration has taken Father Glynn from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C., to Georgetown University, America Magazine, Woodstock Theological Center, Gonzaga University in Spokane (Wash.), St. Peter's College in Jersey City, the University of Massachusetts at Boston and, now, John Carroll. No stranger to The Jesuit University in Cleveland, he was the homilist at the inauguration Mass for the late Father Michael Lavelle, SJ, and served on the Board of Trustees from 1987 to 1990

Among the important things in Father Glynn's life are the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and the concept of institutional mission. ("Individuals shape institutions and institutions shape society.") The son of a prizefighter, he is known for his directness and for his perseverance -- he is a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
