Description
A limited edition 20" x 30" framed poster (100), signed and numbered by Governor Carcieri and the artist, Howard Rubenstein, depicting a place that many regard as quintessential Rhode Island: Narragansett Beach.
"Narragansett Beach," by Howard Rubenstein of North Kingstown, is the winner of the "Scenes of Rhode Island 2004" annual art competition sponsored by the Office of the Governor and Rhode Island Council on the Arts and was selected from a field of 203 entries.
Rubenstein shot "Narragansett Beach," a silver gelatin print photographed with Konica infrared medium format film with a Hasselblad camera and lens, one specially designed for use with infrared film.
"The film is heat sensitive," Rubenstein says. "Anything that absorbs heat comes out more white. The people look real, but also representational, like a nostalgic memory, and Narragansett Beach holds a lot of memories for Rhode Islanders."
As the Honorary Chair of Zoobilee 2004, Governor and Mrs. Carcieri are proud to present this unique piece as an item for Zoobilee's Silent Auction.
