Description

Cloisonne is a form of art comprised of enameled copper roughcast and inlayed wire, known for its detailed designs and unfading colors. I think that this piece was brought back as a sample by my ex-brother-in-law when he went with the first trade mission of businessmen after China was opened up to the West in the '70's.

The design, on both the inner and outer sides, is mostly in green, yellow and goldleaf. Pictured is the traditional long-tongued, fire-breathing dragon. The bowl is six inches in diameter and stands about 4" tall, including the carved wooden base.
It comes in the original box with printed Chinese writing, primitive English typeface and magic marker (clearly Western) product markings.
I could be wrong about its origin but I know that I have taken it though several moves and I think that its sourcing in that trade mission is the reason.
