Kids ages 9-14 will learn to trim sails, tie knots, and man the helm aboard a modern French built 50-foot sloop with experienced instructors certified by the American Sailing Association. Campers will sail on the lower Hudson and New York Harbor depending on the day's weather and tides. They'll prepare lunch together onboard in the galley, or grill on deck while Lady Liberty looks on. In inclement weather they'll head indoors to the Planetarium and Museum of Natural History to learn about celestial navigation and the physics of sailing. On the last night of each session campers have the option of going on an overnight cruise in the harbor where they'll plan the entire voyage - from watching tide schedules to handling navigation. At sunset they'll drop anchor, watch the sky line in full glory and tell stories under the stars.
