Have your son or daughter (4-12) tested at New Vistas Academy. Parents will choose between a standardized reading / math or standardized reasoning test.

Tests include the Peabody Picture Vocabulary test (PPVT) and the Raven's Coloured Matrices for children ages four to eight.


The PPVT is designed to provide an estimate of a child's verbal reasoning ability by measuring his/her receptive vocabulary.

The Raven's Coloured Matrices is an abstract reasoning test that measures how easily and clearly one can reason when problems are presented in non-verbal, non-numerical forms. It is arranged to assess mental development up to the stage when a person is able to reason by analogy.

Tests include the School and College Ability Tests (SCAT) for children ages nine to twelve years of age and the Raven's Progressive Matrices.

The SCAT measure mathematical and verbal reasoning ability.

The Raven's Progressive Matrices is an abstract reasoning ability test that provides a measurement of a child's ability to reason in non-verbal, non-numerical forms. There are 60 problems designed for children nine years and older.
