This handcrafted mosaic was created in the Italian woodworking style known as Intarsia.
Popular in the 15th Century, artists use small pieces of wood which are inserted and glued into hollows of a wood support.
No stains are used, only varnish to protect the wood. This piece, depicting two cardinals contains Walnut, Butternut, Red Cedar, White Cedar and Redwood.
