Description

Quail Forest Cabin is a comfortable, quiet, private semi-detached guest unit on a sunny, redwood forested six acre hilltop in West Sonoma County near the headwaters of Salmon Creek. The perfect stress-relieving weekend get-away or vacation base just 1-1/2 hours north of San Francisco and just twenty minutes from the Pacific Coast and Bodega Bay. Star-gazing is easy here, away from the city lights.

Outdoor sleeping accommodations available.

Just three minutes from the historic, charming village of Occidental, famous for its Italian restaurants at the Union Hotel (and its coffee bar and award-winning bakery, sticky buns, blackberry tarts, apricot turnovers, brownies, foccacia, raspberry croissants), Negri's restaurant and bar, and Pignoli.

This is the perfect vacation base from which to visit Russian River Valley wineries, hike or bicycle the scenic countryside, take a fishing charter from Bodega Bay or a day trip to Mendocino, canoe or kayak in the Russian River, golf several nearby courses, horseback ride at Armstrong Redwoods, or just relax in the quiet countryside.

Wild Flour Brick Oven French Bread Bakery (open only Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) and Osmosis (day spa famous for the Japanese Cedar Enzyme Bath) are just 8 minutes away.

Wineries nearby are the Russian River Valley (10min), Green Valley (10min), Dry Creek Valley (35min), and Alexander Valley appellations (40min). Napa, Sonoma, and Kenwood wineries are a 40min-60min drive. More classic California Champagne is produced here than anywhere else in the State. The region is also famous for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Syrah wines.

Occidental Farmer's Market is every Friday from 4pm to dusk during the months of approx May through October. Dungeness Crab season starts the 2nd week in November and ends June 30. Many crab boats are based in Bodega Bay, a 20 min drive from here. See CA Dept of Fish & Game link below.

The climate in Occidental is generally warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than in eastern Sonoma County. As the crow flies, we are about 7 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Summer temps are typically 75-85F day and 55-60F night. Winter temps range from lo 37 to hi 50F.
