Description

The photo is of an adult marine iguana taken in the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos Islands are an ecological treasure but face numerous challenges, not the least of which include an influx of people from the mainland and development based around tourism.

The photograph is of a very regal and symbolic animal of the Galapagos that represents a relatively old taxonomic group that has managed to survive the pressures of evolution but may not survive some very new dangers that the new world brings. The slightly out-of-focus tire and town in the background represent that new world.

Photograph will be framed by the artist.
