Sherman Tate has established a record of service in communications, energy, government and community affairs over the past 25 years. Sherman's outstanding performance, leadership and desire have placed him at the highest level among business leaders within Arkansas and the middle south region.
Sherman was born and reared in Marvell, Arkansas. He has one daughter, Amber Nicole; a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas; and his outside interest includes golf and tennis.
Sherman graduated from M. M. Tate High School in Marvell, Arkansas; he earned his undergraduate degree from Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas; and he did advance study in wage and salary administration, task analysis, job analysis and interviewing. Sherman served two years in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Republic of Vietnam he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from the army and subsequently served in the Arkansas National Guard where he attained the rank of Colonel.
His work experience includes serving as an executive with ALLTEL Communications with responsibility for managing the company's business in two areas - operations responsibility (P&L) for Arkansas and Mississippi. He also manages regulatory and legislative issues for a five-state area.
Tate has also had executive responsibilities for Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company in several areas - distribution operations, marketing, customer relations, community affairs and human resources. Early in his career, Tate spent time in state government. During his tenure in state government, Tate actually held several positions, which included (1) Administrator, State Office of Personnel Management (2) Director of Personnel for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and (3) Budget and Personnel Specialist for the Arkansas Legislative Council.
Sherman Tate has served on numerous boards and commissions, both local and national in scope. He presently serves as a member of the following corporate boards:
Regions of Arkansas and Southern Bank Corporation. He is the only African American to serve as chairman of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Tate has been honored with numerous recognitions throughout his career. Some were local recognitions while others have been made by national organizations.
Tate is one of two principals that founded "The Domino Effect" a full service management consultating firm. He and another business partner owned a local FORD dealership.
