Description
(Patricia D. Kennedy Scott is donating one hour of her time to the winning bidder.)
Patricia Kennedy-Scott joined Kaiser Permanente in July 2002 as President, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Ohio. Her 25 years of health care leadership experience prepared her well for the challenges of leading America's premier integrated health plan into a new era of success in the Ohio region.
Since arriving in Cleveland, Ms. Kennedy-Scott has established a tone for the organization that clearly matches her own personal style: direct and focused, yet caring, approachable -- and enjoying the journey toward new levels of success.
This approach has served her well in her career, which has taken her across the country and back again. Ms. Kennedy-Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit School of Law.
She began her career as a lawyer in the Michigan Attorney General's office, working exclusively with the Department of Public Health. From there, she went to Harper-Grace Hospitals in Detroit as Vice President of Legal and Administrative Services.
She was recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as an "Up and Comer" in 1993, the same year she was named Michigan's Young Administrator of the Year. During that time, she also was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve on the Health Care Reform Review Committee to assess the effect of policy options on physicians' offices, hospitals and other health care settings.
Prior to coming to Cleveland, Ms. Kennedy-Scott lived in Seattle, Washington for seven years, serving as Vice President of Group Health Services of Puget Sound's Network Services Division.
Ms. Kennedy-Scott consistently serves as a role model and mentor for many women and men, sharing the insight and crucial learnings gained through her experiences in the hospital and health plan arenas. She also sets a high standard for others to follow in terms of commitment to the community. Currently, she serves on the YWCA Executive Advisory Council for the Women's Leadership Initiative; the 2004-2005 Cuyahoga Community College Foundation Board of Directors; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Board of Directors; and recently completed her term as Co-Chair for Harvest for Hunger.
Additionally, she is a member of the Michigan Bar Association, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and is a past member of The National Institute of Health Committee on Nursing Research.
Under her auspices, Kaiser Permanente helps nearly 150,000 members in northeast Ohio thrive through prevention, diagnostic, treatment and follow-up services. Access to health services is readily available through Kaiser Permanente Ohio's ten medical facilities and 18 leading hospitals with which Kaiser contracts.
