Description

Finding himself reading more wine journals than law journals, trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer decided to pursue his dream of producing a California "Bordeaux blend." After several trips to France, Jayson, with the aid of professors of viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux, isolated the best clones of each of the "classic" Bordeaux and red varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Jayson, in turn, had the clones imported into California and used them to plant a Napa Valley vineyard in 1980.

* 1986 Pahlmeyer Red Wine. Under the winemaking direction of Randy Dunn, Jayson released his first vintage - the 1986 Pahlmeyer Red Table Wine. "This bordeaux-style red blend wine is elegant and refined, with a distinctly minty edge to the sweet, ripe cherry and currant flavors, finishes with a complex array of flavors and ripe, sweet tannins." (Wine Spectator Rating - 89)

* 1990 Pahlmeyer Red Wine. "Ripe and intense with a pretty array of flavors ranging from herb, mint, spice and currant. The texture is rich and smooth and the flavors keep repeating themselves on a long, full finish, where you pick up tobacco and cherry notes. Drinkable now." (Wine Spectator Rating - 90)
