Special Instructions

Sylvia Koch began her professional life as a textile designer, having received her BFA in textile design from the Art Institute in Chicago. She also painted in water-colors, and exhibited at regional art fairs and galleries. Koch became interested in the properties of the various papers she was using. Meanwhile she traveled to Europe, North Africa, and Mexico---which she continues to do---where she absorbed the textures and patterns of the vernacular architecture, stonework, embroidery, and tiles.
