Description
This striking three-dimensional piece by artist Jordan Dauby began with a "ghost image" of one of his Enso monotypes (see the description of his Enso series below). Dauby then hand tooled embossments, hand cut aspects from the image and also allowed some sections of the paper to pop upward along design lines or cubistic shapes. The image was then shaped through the application of color pencil, chalk pastels, and oil sticks. This piece engages the viewer, beckoning him to look up and look in to the image. Viewed from the cymbal's edge, the image is not visible. Viewed frontally or on a tilt, some aspects of the landscape appear flattened as others are popped up three-dimensionally even while the overall image is curved recessively into the cymbal.

Jordan Dauby received his MFA from Northern Illinois University. He is a member of the Print Consortium and Chicago Artist' Coalition. Dauby is best known for his "Enso Series," featuring circular landscapes which include both monotype and mixed media. They are drawn from the perspective of lying on the ground and looking upward through tree branches to the sky beyond.
