Neighborhood Net provides students, families and community members with the opportunity to gain supervised access to technology by opening up school families computer labs during the after school hours. Technology is critical to the success of students and the internet serves as a central nervous system for communication and training. Studies have shown that minorities, families in poverty and rural residents are falling further behind in the widening technology gap. According to the U.S Department of Commerce, while computer ownership and internet access has risen for almost all groups, noticeable divides exist between those with different income, educational levels, and different racial ethnic groups. For example, 23.6% of persons from Hispanic households have home computers, that's less than half the national average overall. It is essential for us to provide equal opportunities for our Eagle County families.
