Description
key west concoction by Author Alyson Matley & Photographer Kevin Crean Paperback, 200 pages. Key West is one of those rare locations that inspires people to write in it and to write about it. Ask the millions of visitors, the thousands of part time residents, or those lucky enough to call it home year round and they'll tell you. Key West gets in your blood. Writer Alyson Matley and her husband photographer Kevin Crean have been capturing the island's allure for years. Now, with the release of "A Key West Concoction," they bring together their collective insights and impressions of the elusive magic of Key West. The book is a series of essays, photographs and stories of life at the end of the road. Matley, currently the Key West bureau chief for the Keynoter newspaper has been a freelance and staff writer since 1987. Her work has been recognized with awards from Rolling Stone magazine, the Oregon Newspaper Publishers'Association, Writer's Digest and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Crean's work has been featured in a number of local publications, and he is the recipient of an Ann McKee grant. He is recognized for his black and white murals that have captured bits of Key West that no longer exist. "A Key West Concoction" takes a fond look at tropical life on a tiny island. "Key West," writes Matley at the beginning of a section of essays, "is a weird mix of sophistication, eccentricity and rebellious spirit stirred together and left to ferment at the end of the road." "Depicts the natural wonders that make the Florida Keys and its surrounding waters one of the world's most beautiful marine environs."
