Description
Enjoy 2 Orchestra seats at the Pennsylvania Ballet's performance of Giselle. In Giselle, a prince disguises himself as a commoner and rivals a suitor for the affection of a peasant girl. With a moving score by Adolphe Adam (orchestrated by John Lanchbery) and choreography by the French master Marius Petipa (after Jean Carolli and Jules Perrot), Giselle epitomizes the Romantic notion of man's perpetual, and often hopeless, search for absolute love and happiness. This ballet is the crowning achievement of the romantic era of ballet, and the most poetic of all the 19th-century full-length works!
"Class conflict, two-timing threats of violence, and one of the best death scenes in all ballet... make the first act of the chestnut an irresistible soap opera, adorned with charming dances for the infatuated pair and a festive crowd." Elizabeth Zimmer, The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Giselle will take place at the Merriam Theater at the University of the Arts on the following dates: Friday, February 2 at 8pm; Thursday, February 8 at 2pm; Friday, February 9 at 8pm; Saturday, February 10 at 12pm & 8pm.
