Description

The Klamath is California's second largest river, flowing free for almost 200 miles with an average flow-rate that surpasses that of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The superb scenery, abundant wildlife and rich historical presence clearly shows why this river earned National Wild and Scenic River status in 1995. Snow melt from the east slope of the Cascade Range gathers in the broad, shallow Upper Klamath Lake, then flows southwest and cuts through the Cascades in a rugged volcanic canyon and the legendary rapids of Caldera, Satan's Gate, Hell's Corner, Ambush, and Snag Island Falls. The river is incredibly beautiful as it flows from southern Oregon into northern California.

This two-day trip for 2 adults will commence from Silva's Family Restaurant in Weed and head to the put-in below the J.C. Boyle Powerhouse in southern Oregon. Here we will have an orientation issue waterproof bags to repack your gear as we head out for a true wilderness trip. The Class III rapids begin immediately, giving us a window to warm up and practice our boatsmanship. Proceeding down the river we will stop at Frain Ranch, the site of an old Indian village (marked by old buildings and native artifacts). We will scout the first Class IV rapid of the day, enjoy a gourmet lunch, and head out for tons of world-class white water rafting. Further downstream we will establish a wilderness-style camp. The guides will set up a kitchen and prepare a delicious dinner and dessert. For the evening, we will settle in for campfire festivities and a night under the stars. In the morning, the smell of coffee and breakfast will open your eyes as we prepare to tackle the rest of the river. This day starts out with a bang as we drop right into several Class IV+ rapids. We will enjoy a hearty lunch near the Oregon-California border and get ready for a pleasant trip out, through some Class III drops and end the day at Copco Lake. Here we will be able to enjoy cold drinks and reflect on our adventure as we pack up and head back to our vehicles.

White water rafting is an inherently dangerous sport. Class IV rafting includes long rapids, powerful & irregular waves, dangerous rocks, boiling eddies. Powerful and precise maneuvering is required. These rivers should be run by athletic individuals who are challenging themselves. Participants must be confident in their swimming abilities and know how to swim well.
Rafting gains its element of excitement from the dangers involved. As with any extreme sport, there is a real and present danger involved in taking part. By bidding on this rafting trip, the bidder acknowledges and agrees that the sponsors of this river trip cannot be held responsible for the actions or inactions of the rafting or tour company, or the consequences of those actions or inactions. The bidder will also inform her/his travel partner of the dangers involved in this activity.

*Please note: Due to scheduling conflicts it may be necessary to substitute a comparable river trip on another challenging river within California. Coordinating these changes will be the responsibility of the bidder and of Wilderness Adventures.
