Description

Working from your own photograph, Harrell Fletcher will create an original drawing just for you. Crossing traditional artistic boundaries -- working in photography, drawing, and sculpture -- Fletcher is renowned for his socially engaged, site-specific projects exploring the dynamics of social spaces and communities. His projects often focus on "ordinary" spaces, ranging from a probation office lobby in Portland, OR, for example, to bemused people in old-age homes reading passages from James Joyce's Ulysses.
"Fletcher's aesthetic is endearingly situated somewhere between artlessness and intimacy," says ArtForum. Winner of the $50,000 Alpert Award in Visual Arts in 2005, Fletcher has exhibited at art's hottest hot spots: the 2004 Whitney Biennial, SF MoMA, the de Young Museum, The Drawing Center in NYC, PICA in Portland, CoCA in Seattle, WA, and Signal in Malmo, Sweden. Harrell now is on the faculty of Portland State University in the Art Department.
