Description
What makes San Francisco what it is? It's surely not the usual suspects, the familiar tourist-trodden icons of Alcatraz, Coit Tower, and (please, God help us) the Golden Gate Bridge.
No, San Francisco's secrets lie in its mundane moments, the places we overlook, neglect, fail to notice.
In this auction package, the inimitable Kate Pocrass will lead you and your group on a serendipitous, customized, three-hour meander in search of San Francisco's more subtle treasures. In a famous poem, T. S. Eliot wrote, "We shall not cease from exploration/And the end of all our exploring/Will be to arrive where we started/And know the place for the first time." So it is, when you undertake a Mundane Journey with conceptual artist and photographer Kate Pocrass.
In Mundane Journeys, you and your guests -- a group of 2 to 15 lucky people -- will join Pocrass on a customized, 3-hour, serendipitous walking tour in and about San Francisco.
With an "eagerness to interact with strangers in common atmospheres," Pocrass has a serendipitous gift for noticing the small details that flavor our daily lives. Whether it's a tree in the Panhandle that's shaped like a celery stalk or a Chinatown barber who gives "Kirk Douglas" haircuts, Mundane Journeys stresses the importance of overlooked observations, and celebrates the pleasures of sharing these peculiar experiences with others.
Kate Pocrass earned a B.F.A from the University of Michigan and an M.F.A. from the California College of Arts. She has exhibited work locally at Southern Exposure, the Rena Bransten Gallery, Spanganga, Pond and New Langton Arts, and internationally at the Foundation de Appel, in the Netherlands, and Rooseum, in Sweden.
3-hour tailor made tour, group size negotiable, preferably 2-15 guests
