Description

Are you highbrow or low-rent? Foie gras or Krispy Kreme? Think of this item as a sort of inkblot test, in which your choice reveals your deepest nature.
Spend an evening in our screening room with YBCA's own Film/Video Curator, Joel Shepard. In this package, you will choose one of two special-event programs, to entertain you and your group of 10 friends.
So: Which will it be?
1) Trash: Mr. Shepard will select and introduce a program of movie "trailers" from trashy 60s and 70s horror, action, and erotic films, rescued from abandoned drive-ins. And in a culinary repast appropriate to this superlative cinema trash, you and your guests will chow down on corn dogs, beer, and Moon Pies in YBCA's Grand Lobby.
2) Treasure: In this upper-crust alternative, Mr. Shepard will select and introduce one of his favorite, treasured "art" films. The film choice -- to be announced on the night of the event -- will represent the highest achievements in cinema history. And to set the scene, you and your guests will be fêted in the Grand Lobby with a refined selection of cucumber sandwiches (crusts removed, of course!), Champagne, and elegant desserts.
Joel Shepard joined Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in 1997, after having served as Associate Director for the San Francisco Cinematheque. Previously, Shepard was Assistant Director of the Minnesota Film Society in Minneapolis, and Film/Video Curator at Film in the Cities in St. Paul. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Shepard has served on media arts panels and juries for Frameline, Bay Area Video Coalition, Headlands Center for the Arts, New Langton Arts, and the SF Art Institute, among others.
