Description
Acrylic and graphite with gloss medium
Thank you to the CHC for the opportunity to participate in this project. The wooden heart was a wonderful beginning and the spirit of a caring community is a great inspiration.
The diagram of two orbits with a central sphere is an image I've been using in my work for quite awhile. I hope it seems familiar and a little bit cosmic, vulnerable and enduring. To begin this project, I carved, polished, sanded and painted the heart to make it feel personal, and also a bit weathered and worn from good use. I used iridescence and metallic colors in the gloss to make the surface shine and then buffed it to a warm glow. I added the motto on the other side, "May Love Always Find A Home in Your Heart," so that the heart could be the kind of object found in a sunny kitchen.
I have been drawing and painting for over 35 years and continue to learn from applying the process of art everyday. I received my undergraduate degree in Visual & Environmental Studies from Harvard/Radcliffe in 1974 and my master's degree in Art from NYU in 1994. I have been a resident of Hinesburg for 23 years and I'm serving my second term in the Vermont Senate from Chittenden County.
