Description of the piece from the artist:

I shot this piece in 1987 on my first trip to Guatemala. The village was San Jorge, above Lake Atitlan, and as I walked through the streets of this two street village, I was followed by a curious group of little street urchins.

They giggled and smiled as I photographed doorways and windows... and then they gathered into the perfect portrait setting and stood and watched me.

I turned and shot two photos of them, before they giggled and approached me to look through my camera lens. Their mothers were in the distance nursing and weaving... and they laughed as the kids surrounded me.

The image was only recently rediscovered in my
archives. This is the first time I have printed it.
It is called "El Alcalde", The Mayor, due to the precociousness of the young boy in the photo. He was the leader of this little group... the one who made all the decisions... and I surmise that he could very well be the mayor today.

It is a pigmented giclée on canvas... with two coats of uv lacquer and fixative applied to increase the archival properties of the pigments. I print and frame all of my work as presentation is of utmost importance to me and this is the only way I can control the final result.
