Description

This piece is part of the artist's Voiceless series, works featuring a single figure in each canvas. Many of the works contain dark undertones, suggesting trauma or strain and a notion of longing or frustration. They call attention to those who are figuratively voiceless, ignored by society and the government. The scraping, scratching and layering of paint further implies an urban experience of hard choices. Gibbs lives with his wife in the Tashiro Kaplan Artists Lofts in Seattle, where they also manage the building. Apparition is an acrylic on canvas painting created in 2004 and measuring 24" x 34."
