Description
This wonderful oil painting is titled "Elliot S. Barker's Trail" and features Barker and his dog Puce on a trail in Pecos near Inspiration Point.
The Barker family is a notable New Mexico family of poets, authors, rangers, educators, and artists. Mr. Barker toured New Mexico (before it was a state) with Teddy Roosevelt and Aldo Leopold. Mr. Barker was the first state game warden for New Mexico.
Mr. Barker is Mr. Phillips (the artist) Great Uncle and told Mr. Phillips many stories of hiking in the Pecos with his favorite dog, Puce. Mr. Phillips painted this piece on the night of his uncle's passing on to a greater wilderness.
This piece measures approximately 34" x 40" and is framed in a beautiful, distressed wood frame. It is signed and dated by the artist.
