Special Instructions

Molas are hand-stitched needlework art created by the Kuna women, members of a small tribe of approximately 15,000 living Huichol Indians. Using a special reverse appliqué process, they assemble numerous layers of varying color cloth. The bottom fabric layers are loosely stitched together while the top layers are painstakingly cut into intricate designs with special scissors. The cut edges are then folded back and stitched to the bottom layers creating a multidimensional artwork.
