Ed Mulligan (1964-Present), local New Jersey artist has been most noted for his affection for espresso and "that funny thing he does with his pinky toe". Tragically, his professional career as a fine artist was cut short when he realized that there was more money in graphic design. Suddenly, having found himself bereft of an immortal soul, Ed Mulligan began a lifelong quest to find the perfect drawing during his "off time" from the corporate world. With his uncanny sense of the bizarre, the artist spent every free moment he could, sitting and sketching in coffee shops around the greater metropolitan area. His "Monkey with Eggbeater" 2006 epitomizes Ed Mulligan's struggle with his own self-doubt of Darwin's theory of evolution. "If we evolved from apes, then why can't they make breakfast?" has been a war cry of this artist ever since he began his artistic journey into the dark recesses of his own psyche. Having mastered the fine art of Kino Mutai (the Filipino "Sport of Death") Ed Mulligan has spent a great portion of his time experimenting with various mediums but after a local Psychic Reader filed assault charges against the artist, he has refrained from such activities.

Born in Staten Island, the native New Yorker soon found that his passion for the arts would be a lifelong pursuit, when at the tender age of three he created what most of his critics deem his finest masterpiece. The peanut butter and diaper sculpture still stands today as a shrine to his genius.

Now 42 years old the artist lives on a sprawling estate in the Garden State drawing and painting in public coffee houses while contemplating the queer notion of animals with kitchen utensils and drinking excessive amounts of cappuccino. "I pray for a world where the giraffe and the mongoose can make the perfect cheese omelet." Ed Mulligan is known to pontificate to anyone who will give him the time of day. The artist also deeply hopes that his "Monkey with Eggbeater" will someday find a great home and bring joy to those who gaze upon it, or at least, make someone smile a little.

"Monkey with Eggbeater" is rendered in the preferred medium of the artist. Black (2B) and white Conte Crayon pencil (Pierre Noire) on Strathmore pastel colored paper.
