The Swilcan Bridge

Item Number: 929

Description
This is Jack's last competitive round of golf at the 2005 Open Championship, St Andrews. Here he is making his last pilgrimage across the Swilcan Bridge, with his caddy and son, Steve. In Scotland, a burn is a creek, Swilcan Burn flows in front of the 1st and 18th greens. On the 1st hole, the burn is directly in front of the green and is truly a hazard. On the 18th hole it is not a problem unless you hit a bad tee shot. On the 18th hole you cross the famous Swilcan Bridge. The bridge is over 800 years old. It was on the only pathway between the ecclesiastical stronghold and the town's harbor on the sage Eden estuary. It was the bridge used by traders to bring their goods to town. It was also the access to the links that the townspeople used to indulge in their peculiar game of "golfe" or "gowff". Today, a walk across the Swilcan Bridge memorializes the pilgrimage to the homeland of golf, St. Andrews. Included in the piece is a special limited addition Jack Nicklas 5 pound.
