Description
You are bidding on a 20" X 30" framed color photograph by Tom Mangelsen called "The Peace Dance". The photograph is signed by both Tom Mangelsen and Jane Goodall and commemorates the day that the migrating sandhill cranes offered Jane a message of hope and peace.
On March 19, 2003, the day that the first U.S. bombs were dropped on Baghdad, Jane Goodall was with her close friend Tom Mangelsen, the famed wildlife photographer, at a cabin built by his father on the banks of the Platte River in Nebraska.
They were there to witness the annual migration of sandhill cranes and snow geese. For two hours Jane and Tom watched thousands of cranes in the cornfield near Tom's cabin.
When reflecting on the experience, Jane said "Cranes are symbols of peace in many cultures and suddenly I felt sure they were bringing us a message--that although there will be dark days ahead, in the end peace will return to earth.
