Description
When you visit The Corning Museum of Glass you will see the gaffers make mouth-blown glass objects designed especially for the enjoyment of our visitors. These one-of-a-kind glass pieces are individually hand-crafted using a wide variety of techniques that have been developed through centuries of glassmaking by skilled artisans. This piece is one example of the masterpieces they create. Steve Gibbs, master glassblower, created this piece. Gaffer Steve Gibbs spent Sunday afternoons at The Corning Museum of Glass daydreaming about life as a glass engraver. At 14, he began an apprenticeship with his uncle, a master leaded glass artist with over half a century of glassworking experience. Fresh out of college, he was hired by Steuben and worked for 17 years as a manager, supervising different parts of the Steuben Factory, including the engraving shop. He was introduced to hot glassblowing at Steuben. Currently, he manages Public Events, the Hot Glass Road Show, and the Hot Glass Show Stage at The Corning Museum of Glass.
