Description

Once again, WXXI enthusiastically welcomes Jim Christy on board as the featured artist for its annual Auction! A Rochester native, Jim Christy has an abiding interest in both historic and present day scenes around his hometown. Both are evident in this limited edition print, numbered 16 of 200, entitled, Spirit of the Genesee. Here he has captured in watercolor and gouache paints the new Troupe Howell Bridge the tour boat Mary Jemison and the city itself. One sunny day last year I first saw the new bridge under construction and immediately knew it would be the focus of this year's Auction painting Jim says. Later I boarded the 'Mary Jemison' to take some photos for the project and was inspired to include her in the painting. Placing a happy young family in the foreground to enjoy all the sights was simply putting icing on the cake. Jim maintains a studio at his home where he paints for galleries here and in Florida and accepts commissions. For several years Jim has contributed his artwork to the Auction and says he is honored to have this "featured artist" position. This print is signed by Jim Christy and is ready to be framed. The print measures 21 ½ X 27".
