Description
Iowa's foray into the Rose Bowl Game was a spectacular one indeed. The Hawkeyes downed Oregon State 35-19 in the 1957 contest. Each year the Rose Bowl features the best from the Big 10 against the champions of the Pac 10 (In '57, however, the latter was still the Pac 8.), along with the pageantry known as the Tournament of the Roses Parade. This ball was used in that game. It was obtained by a ballboy and the event has been immortalized to feature "Iowa" and "Oregon State" boldly painted on the surface. The ball must have been used when Iowa had the ball because "Iowa" is stamped into the center panel. Two indecipherable signatures appear on the ball as well. A great piece of Rose Bowl history from Iowa's first Rose Bowl triumph.
